We have had a fun and productive week in room 12. We have loved dressing up for the various spirit day events and have also had fun learning new things in our various subject areas.
Social Studies: Today we completed our tour of the Midwest. We loved the various stops along the way such as the Mall of America, the Ford Factory, and the famous arch in St. Louis. The third graders are learning so much about the history, geography, economics and government about the different regions we are visiting.
Science: We are still learning about the structures of life. This week we were focused on growing plants in our classroom. We watch as our seeds grew sprouts, leaves and roots right before our very eyes! The third graders were excited today when they got to take their little seedlings home with them to plant.
Math: We have started our final math chapter this week. Chapter 5 focuses on answering more complicated word problems. We are practicing using variables, making proof drawings, adding units and choosing the correct operation in order to have an accurate answer.
Reading/Writing: We are still researching our US states. The third graders are learning various note taking strategies and are keeping track of their notes in keynotes slides on their iPads. Next they will learn how to use these notes to construct paragraphs about their topic. We hope to have one more published piece to share with you before the end of the year.
