We have had a great week of learning in room 12. Read below to see what we have been up to!
Reading: We have learned how to "talk back to books". Students were given a sheet of question starters to help us think of interesting comments we can make after we finish reading. Some of these starters are:
Writing: We are working on revising and publishing our small moment stories. We used a checklist to help us stay focused on specific parts of our story that we could add to our change. We now know that revising is actually changing the words and the meaning of our story while editing is making corrections to spelling, capitalization and punctuation.
Science: We have wrapped up our study of capacity. We know that is when we measure how much an object can hold. We used tools to measure capacity such as a graduated cylinder and a syringe. We used metric units such as liters and milliliters to measure the capacity of our objects. Next week we will add our final layer to our measurement unit as we investigate temperature.
Math: We have continued to work on understanding some math properties. We have spent the bulk of our time discussing the commutative and distributive property but have also learned about the identity and zero property. We are now using these properties to have a better understanding of the concepts behind multiplication and division rather than just memorizing our facts. We do have an upcoming math test in the near future. Right now we are hoping that it will be the end of next week or perhaps the beginning of the week after. We will spend time reviewing chapter one and will send home some review materials so that each third grader feels adequately prepared for their first math test.
We hope you have a wonderful weekend!
